EEX is pleased to announce that EEX European Gas Spot Index – EGSI, calculated according to the new methodology, is now available within all EEX Group DataSource services and on EEX Website.
You can now retrieve the EGSI values from a dedicated XLSX file on our sFTP server and via a request in our API. Moreover, EEX EGSI is automatically integrated into our EEX Group Desktop App.
Please note that the files, currently provided on our website, will be discontinued and removed on 31 March 2024.
New EEX EGSI Methodology:
As per the new methodology communicated in November 2022, EEX creates and disseminates now four European Gas Spot Indices:
- The EGSI Day is the daily calculated EGSI value delivered on each business day (usually from Monday to Friday) for each and every delivery day (Monday to Sunday) of the year. EGSI Day values are provided on the last business day before the delivery day.
- The EGSI Weekend is the average of EGSI Day's of a given weekend. Please note that Bank holidays (i.e., a Bank holiday Monday of a Bank holiday weekend) will not count torward a EGSI Weekend. Only Saturday and Sunday values are considered for EGSI Weekend. The EGSI Weekend value is delivered on the last trading day where you can trade the weekend contract as day ahead (this will be Friday in most of the cases).
- The EGSI Week is the average of EGSI Day's of a given week. The EGSI Week value is delivered on the last trading day where the last final EGSI Day value will become available for a week (this will be Friday in most of the cases).
- The EGSI Month is the average of EGSI Day's of a given month. The EGSI Month value is delivered on the last trading day where the last final EGSI Day value will become available for a month. This will be the second to last day of a month, as long as the end of the month will fall between a Tuesday till Saturday (no Bank holiday). This will be the last Friday of a month if the month end falls on Sunday or Monday.

Please note that EEX EGSI values are available in XLSX-format on the EEX Group DataSource sFTP server in the folder /additional_data/EGSI. Further formats (XML, JSON, and CSV) are only provided via API.
EEX Website:
A new widget with the EEX EGSI values is now available. When opening the website for the first time, please make sure to refresh your browser cache. The EEX EGSI CSV-files currently available on the website will be removed on 31 March 2024.
Access, Remuneration and Usage:
Please note that EEX EGSI access on the sFTP server will be granted free of charge, to all existing customers, until 31 December 2023.
As of 1 January 2024, customers that have an existing paid subscription for EEX Natural Gas (EoD) or EEX EGSI, contracted before 31 December 2022, will benefit from a free of charge EEX EGSI access on the sFTP server until further notice. For free activation, please contact EEX Market Data Services, stating your EEX_ID in the email.
