EEX AG is extending its European Gas Spot Index (EEX EGSI) to NBP, the UK market area. From 26 June 2023, the NBP EGSI will be published alongside all other market areas. The Gas Spot EGSI will, in a first step, be published on the EEX website, before also being available in EEX Group DataSource services at a later stage.
The extension of the EEX EGSI to NBP is the logical next step following end of day index which took place earlier this year. It reflects the EEX NBP spot volume development recently observed: more than 58 TWh were traded in 2022, representing a twelve-fold increase compared to 2021. An even stronger dynamic is observed in 2023, with volumes already surpassing the full year of 2022, making the EEX NBP spot one of the most liquid gas market areas.
Moreover, the EEX NBP EGSI Day will be used as the underlying for the new financially settled EEX NBP EGSI Natural Gas Futures contracts that will be launched by the European Energy Exchange (EEX) on 26 June 2023. As a reference price for the EEX EGSI Futures, the NBP EGSI qualify as benchmarks under Regulation (EU) 1011/2016 (“Benchmark Regulation”). Therefore, the methodology is described in the EEX AG Benchmark Statement and not in the EEX AG Index Description.
