Since 1 June 2021, the German Market Areas GASPOOL (GPL) and NetConnect (NCG) are operated by the new THE GmbH and will form a single nationwide German gas market area as of 1 October 2021. The name of the nationwide German gas market area will be Trading Hub Europe (THE) and will be managed by THE GmbH. This merger will be followed by a change in the trading products offered by EEX which will lead to a change in the files distributed via the EEX Group DataSource Services accordingly.

The changes below will affect all EEX Group DataSource products:

Changes to the EEX Group DataSource Products
EEX Group DataSource sFTP
The newly created THE files containing the values for the EEX Natural Gas THE products can be found on our server within the new THE folder in the “natgas” directory. The publication of these new files will be done according our file publication schedule that can be found on our website, along with sample files.
For historical data, please note that
- The GPL and NCG files will remain available after the merger but will not be updated anymore.
- No historical data for THE will be made available before the first trading day of THE products.
EEX Group DataSource App / Excel Tool
The EEX Natural Gas GPL products will be moved into the expired folder in the symbol tree while the folder “NCG” will be renamed into “THE” and populated with the new EEX Natural Gas THE products. Please note, that the historical data related to NCG will be included in the THE folder, along with prices related to EEX Natural Gas THE products.
Changes for the EEX Natural Gas Futures
Products
Currently, EEX offers 16 different derivatives products for the German gas market areas, distributed between NCG and GPL and between the regulated and the OTF markets. From these 16 derivatives products, the 8 NCG products for the regulated and the OTF markets will be renamed into THE products in the respective files and applications.
The change will mainly affect the long name of the products. There are no amendments to the respective ISIN or EEX short codes.
The remaining 8 GPL products for the regulated and OTF markets will be delisted and therefore all current files for GPL products will be discontinued as of 1 October 2021.

Changes for EEX Natural Gas Spot Products
Furthermore, EEX offers different Within-Day, Day-Ahead and Weekend gas spot products for the German gas market areas, currently labelled as NCG and GPL products. From these products, the names of NCG Day-Ahead, Within-Day and Weekend products will be renamed into THE. Please note that the new created EEX Natural Gas THE locational products – as communicated in the customer information of 25 March 2021 – will not be available on the EEX Group DataSource Applications.

EEX Indices
EEX calculates the indices WDRP, EGSI, EGIX and Monthly Index for NCG and GPL. Those indices will continue to be calculated and published for THE as of 1 October 2021 following the same methodology and as per the publication schedule on our website.
