    EEX: Freight volumes reach all-time high, power volumes increase by 57%

    In March 2019, the European Energy Exchange (EEX) increased volumes on its power derivatives markets by 57% to 348.3TWh (March 2018: 222.4TWh).In particular, the German Phelix-DE product (234.6TWh, +75%) as well as the Italianmarket (56.7TWh, +58%) contributed to this development. Furthermore, volumes on the markets for Austria (1.4 TWh), Spain (11.9 TWh) and Central/South-Eastern Europe(13.1 TWh) also increased significantly.

    Emission Allowances

    On the EEX marketsfor emission allowances,trading volumes totaled 101.1 million tonnes of CO2 in March(March 2018: 246.6million tonnes of CO2).Primary Market Auctions contributed 55.5million tonnes of CO2 to the total volume.On the secondary market, trading volumes totaled 45.7million tonnes of CO2 (March 2018: 171.6million tonnes of CO2).

    Agricultural Products

    Throughout March, trading volumes in agricultural product sincreased by 6% to 3,914 contracts (March 2018: 3,678contracts). In the dairy segment, the volume reached 1,485 contracts (equal to7,505tonnes). In processing potatoes,volumes increased by 10% to 2,429contracts (equal to 60,725 tonnes).

    Freight Trading volumes

    In Freight increased 4-fold with 9,430 lots traded in March (March 2018: 2,270 lots).This represents by far the highest monthly volume in this market. The previous record totaled 7,025lots and was achieved in October 2018.
