Please take note of two important pieces of information.
1- Accounting for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions linked to biogas production
We would like to inform you that for all biogas production in 2024, for each biomethane production facility with a purchase contract concluded in application of articles L. 446-4, L. 446-5 or L. 446-24 of the Energy Code:
- 58% of the guarantees of origin issued by these installations may bear the statement appearing in a) of 10° of Article D 446-26-1: the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of biogas has already been accounted for and may not be double counted in another system;
- 42% of the guarantees of origin issued by these installations may bear the statement in b) of 10° of Article D. 446-26-1: the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of biogas has not been accounted for and may be accounted for under the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS).
2- Clarification of the rules for use on the registry
In order to make it easier for you to use our register, in addition to the user guide which can be downloaded from the register website, we are making several thematic guides available to you. The first available guide concerns the cancellation of guarantees of origin.
As specified in Article D. 446-29, once issued, a guarantee of origin is transferable for 12 months and can be used (cancelled) for 18 months. No other rules linked to consumption periods are now applied in the register. Ex-domain cancellations are possible in the registry, but EEX takes no responsibility for the acceptance of these guarantees of origin in the destination countries. As a reminder, cancellation is an irreversible action in the registry.
