The backend for gas spot trading
M7G is the latest addition to the well-established M7 trading system product family, specifically tailored to meet the needs of 24/7 trading on the natural gas spot markets. It will bring not only increased performance, coupled with low latency, but also improved functionality, such as auto-matching.
EEX is now inviting both Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and trading participants interested in direct API connectivity to explore and begin their development and integration activities.
We are now actively working with ISVs (Trading Technologies, Trayport, Estar) on system integration testing, gathering feedback, and driving incremental improvements. These vendors are actively supporting our exploratory efforts and helping us better understand evolving user requirements to most effectively support the continued development of our Gas Spot markets.
Timeline Overview
Summer 2026 – Testing open
- Trading participants interested in connecting directly to M7G via API may request access to the simulation environment and technical documentation to start their integration activities.
- Vendors/Members are encouraged to begin configuring connections and setting up test accounts. Optional and at vendors’ own risk; EEX does not guarantee final adoption.
- This version will serve as the baseline for development and integration, followed by sign-off by vendors and subject to regulatory approval
Second half of 2027 – Target Go-Live
- Pending EC approval. EEX could go live at this point.
- Dependencies: The Market Participants (Exchange Council made up of EEX members and key stakeholders) make an evaluation of the proposed (functioning) system vs the current system
- EEX Exchange will take advice from our Exchange council members on whether the Exchange should move to the new platform. (This may be at the end of 2026 for decision.)
What this means for Customers?
For the time being, trading can be continued as usual without any changes.
Members connected via supported vendors are not required to take any immediate steps at this stage.
Key vendors will be invited to integrate with the M7G platform. The initiative is open to all registered vendors.
It is expected that all EEX related trading screens will continue to operate seamlessly following the migration.
Direct API Connectivity
In addition to connecting via supported Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), trading participants may also explore direct connectivity to M7G through the native API interface. Members interested in direct integration are encouraged to contact EEX to discuss technical requirements, documentation access and testing opportunities.
API Guidance
Trading participants connecting through an ISV should consult their respective vendors regarding API-related changes. Participants interested in direct connectivity to M7G may request technical documentation and integration support directly from EEX.
