This page is dedicated to guiding you through the migration from the current EEX Group DataSource sFTP server to our File Cloud. Our goal is to ensure a seamless migration, allowing you to access EEX Market Data without disruption.

The EEX Group DataSource sFTP service currently provides CSV files targeted for more automated data collection and an additional XLSX file option for ad-hoc data requests and manual interaction. The migration to the File Cloud addresses the mentioned CSV files, which will become available in a modernised way. More details can be found below.

A re-designed solution for the XLSX files is also foreseen and will be communicated in a second step.

    FAQs

Questions related to EEX Group DataSource sFTP server

The migration foresees a 2-step procedure.

    • Files for indices will be updated until (including) 30 June 2026.
    • Market Data which includes settlement prices and open interest data will be updated until (including) 30 September 2026.

30 September 2026 will be the last date when files will be created allowing access and downloads via the currently used processes. The EEX DataSource sFTP server will remain available for any other type of action until 1 October 2026. The ultimate deactivation of all access is scheduled for 2 October 2026.

The maturity extensions of EEX Natural Gas and GO Futures on 7 April 2026 were the last product additions for the sFTP services. No further trading products will be integrated into the sFTP server thereafter.

Yes, you can do that as long as your individual migration project considers the last date of the Index file availability on 30 June 2026 and all other EEX Market Data files as well as general sFTP availability on 30 September 2026.

If you process the data provided in an automated way, we encourage you to strictly focus on the migration timeline. The File Cloud provides you with the easiest access to ready-to-go files for your individual automated processing.

Outside of the File Cloud, other data services such as REST API, Desktop App and our public website are available for automated or ad-hoc data access. While REST API is designed for real-time data access based on individual API calls according to your individual needs, DesktopApp and our public website help you with visualisation for manual interaction.

EEX has introduced multiple new trading products over the recent years. EEX Transparency Platform also sees an increasing number of reporting companies disclosing more than 1,000 urgent market messages on a daily basis.

These data-driven facts and architectural analysis have shown that our data services need to be taken to the next level in terms of data supply, data storage, and processing capacity. After the roll-out of the revamped REST API in January, the migration from the sFTP server to our EEX Group DataSource File Cloud is now the next step to address these challenges. We also leverage the newly built, cloud-native data dissemination infrastructure and can facilitate seamless usage to a continuously growing user pool.

This shift from outdated ftp technology to the File Cloud will drastically improve technical performance but will also change the way of data retrieval for the reasons outlined above. This change comes with enhanced reference data content for easier identification and a more robust process design to ensure not only data correctness but also file completeness. Therefore, reference data are usually provided before the trading day starts, while settlements and end-of-day trading statistics become available at 10 pm CE(S)T.

Work is already ongoing to redesign the XLSX files and standardise them according to the item of interest (e.g. futures, indices). We aim to make it more user friendly, to improve data correction management, and to avoid cases where downloads of some tens of MB are the daily standard. We will provide updates in due course.

If you previously used XLSX files for any kind of automated process, we urgently recommend you considering the use of REST API or File Cloud as more suitable alternatives that are already available.

Yes, this service will also be decommissioned on 30 September 2026, as it is tied to the technical infrastructure of the EEX Group DataSource sFTP server.
Availability of files across reference data, settlement prices, and end-of-day trading statistics are defined in the File Cloud User Guide.

EEX Group DataSource File Cloud offers several key benefits:

    • Improved Reliability & Performance: Use of a scalable, cloud-based architecture ensures shorter data supply chains and better performance for your benefit.
    • Integrated platform: EEX Group DataSource File Cloud and REST API rely on the same architectural and methodological principles such as field naming conventions and trading production identification. The use of different data services for different use cases is thus simple and migration among both manageable with minimal effort.
    • Convenient Access: Access is provided through an API-like URL with access token for automated downloads. Alternatively, an online file explorer allows you to view folder structures, select your file of interest, and to download your CSV manually.
    • Improved Data Structure:

      • A dedicated reference data file provides detailed contract information, even beyond your subscription. This is available before the trading day starts. It also allows you to view additional data points before you ask for an additional subscription.
      • Settlement and statistics data are now in separate files to better account for different market models across derivatives and spot markets on one hand but to also consider flexible solutions for markets in different time zones on the other.
    • Additional Feature: Dedicated bulk download functionality. While market data is provided in daily CSV files to support recurrent daily processes best, initial market discovery seeks simple mass data downloads. This is now supported by choosing the market area of interest and downloading all daily files for a year in a single process.

    Contract-related questions

Existing sFTP server subscribers do not need to re-subscribe to the File Cloud products. All users will be migrated to the same products they have subscribed to for the sFTP server. But it is required to onboard yourself to our new EEX Group DataSource Hub, create access token(s) and, if necessary, adapt your own data retrieval processes to the new file structure.

As per Section 5.2. – Changes of our General Conditions, all customers are entitled to cancel their subscription unilaterally for indices at the latest on 31 May 2026, effective 30 June 2026 and for Market Data at the latest on 31 August 2026, effective 30 September 2026. You may cancel the subscription via a simple email to datasource@eex-group.com

We provide corresponding File Cloud products for all existing sFTP server products. This is also the basis for the migration of your subscription. Beyond that, market area-specific products for EEX Natural Gas have been available with since the File Cloud roll-out.

In addition, we also provide an additional choice for REST API customers, which is potentially also interesting for you as sFTP client.

If you want to be independent of file creation schedules at 10 pm CE(S)T, and are keen on automation, our EEX Group DataSource REST API application might be a preferred alternative for you.

REST API provides entitlement options at market area level for EEX Power and Natural Gas and at commodity level for all other asset classes. Now, we also offer separate REST API products for top-of-book and trades on one hand as well as products for settlement prices and statistics on the other. The latter (e.g. settlements/statistics for EEX German Power Derivatives) might be the right alternative for the previous EEX German Power Derivatives sFTP product for you.

Migration from sFTP to File Cloud

If you want to reduce your subscription from the EEX Natural Gas product bundle to an individual EEX Natural Gas market area product (e.g. TTF), please contact us via datasource@eex-group.com for further assistance. We will adjust your subscription accordingly.

Migration from sFTP to REST API

We support a move from sFTP server products to REST API products with a fee waiver for 2026. In this case, you only pay for the previous sFTP server product subscription, upgrade to the respective new REST API products free of charge and will only pay the list price for REST API products from 2027.

Please contact us via datasource@eex-group.com and we will be happy to accommodate your change from sFTP to REST API.

The REST API products invoicing will start on 1 January 2027 for the first time.

No, an email change in the EEX Group Webshop does not change the email address in the EEX Group DataSource Hub and vice versa. In any case, the email address to register with EEX Group DataSource Hub must be the same as your EEX Group Webshop registration address.

    Content-related questions

You can expect the same data in EEX Group DataSource File Cloud and on the sFTP server. However, changes have been made and only settled contracts will be provided within our File Cloud. Therefore, EEX Gas Spot Within-day data will not be available.

Please note that we provide more granular data like EEX Gas-Spot Within-day data via our EEX Group DataSource REST API. We support a transition from sFTP server products to REST API products with a fee waiver for 2026. Please contact us via datasource@eex-group.com and we will be happy to accommodate your change from sFTP to REST API.

Further changes apply, such as the enrichment of reference data and the removal of timestamp data for OHLL prices in end-of-day statistics. File names have changed, too.
With the aim of simplifying the technical migration, a mapping between files in the File Cloud and the sFTP server is provided. The sFTP-File Cloud Path Mapping links the previous sFTP files and its paths with the corresponding File Cloud equivalent.

    The file structure has changed:

    • More comprehensive reference data is now provided in a dedicated file before the beginning of the trading day. It allows you to doublecheck newly created trading products and instruments right from the beginning of the trading day. It goes beyond your subscription to simplify a potential expansion of your subscription to other market areas for EEX Power and Natural Gas or other commodities.
    • Settlement and statistics are now available in two separate files to better account for different market models across derivatives and spot markets on one hand but to also consider flexible solutions for markets in different time zones on the other. They contain a minimum of reference data targeted to the identification of trading products and instruments. Only settled contracts will be provided within our EEX Group DataSource File Cloud. Therefore, EEX Gas Spot Within-day data will not be available.

Market data is available from 1 November 2020 onwards.

As of now, we do not offer historical market data prior to November 2020.

For detailed information on all technical changes, users should refer to the official technical documentation and the provided sample files available at EEX Website

Settlement prices and end-of-day statistics are published at 10 pm CE(S)T daily in the File Cloud. This ensures file completeness in case of delays of predecessor processes. For Japanese Power Derivatives, settlement prices are published at 3 pm CE(S)T on every business day.

If you are interested in settlement prices at the earliest point in time, please check out our product offer for REST API application in EEX Group Webshop

We can confirm the clear intention to integrate all indices in the same way in the File Cloud and in the REST API and to decommission the interim solutions with downloadable files on EEX website.

However, parallel to this change, we also renew our index computation infrastructure and bundle index computations in one central location.

Therefore, for an additional period, interim solutions will still be in place before they are gradually integrated into the central index solutions. This applies to EEX Next Day Index – NDI, EEX Neutral Gas Price – NGP (ETF, TTF) and EEX KWK Index as downloadable files on the EEX website.

    Accessibility and Usability questions

EEX Group DataSource File Cloud is a different technology that does not use the credentials you have used for accessing EEX Group DataSource sFTP server.

Access to EEX Group DataSource File Cloud works in the same way as for the REST API and involves three main steps:

    1. Register on our new EEX Group DataSource Hub by clicking the LOGIN button in the top right-hand corner. By doing so, you will also be requested to sign up for a Deutsche Boerse Azure account. This step is needed to activate data access and choose your preferred multi-factor authentication method. The email address to register must be the same as your EEX Group Webshop registration address.
    2. After registration, you need to generate an Access Token within the EEX Group DataSource Hub
    3. Access the data using either the File Cloud Explorer within the EEX Group DataSource Hub or access the files directly using standard HTTP GET requests, e.g. via Windows Powershell.
    • Due to security reasons, an Access Token is valid for one calendar year if an active data subscription is given.
    • Every created Access Token has its own expiry date depending on the creation date.
    • The user is responsible for Access Token creation and renewal before expiry.
    • If the Access Token is missing, invalid, or expired, the File Cloud responds with the following generic error message: “401 – Authentication failed. Please verify your token.”
    • A maximum of four Access Tokens per user can be active at the same time.

    Yes, this is possible.

A user account can have up to 4 active Access Tokens in parallel. Therefore, 4 Accesses are possible.

The number of downloads per client is limited to 250 per 30 minutes starting from the first download. Bulk downloads are possible and count as one download.

The bulk download of files works for the File Could Explorer as well as the URL. In the File Cloud Explorer, users are able to bulk download all files of a folder simultaneously. This usually equates to one calendar month. Via the URL, users are additionally able to bulk download full calendar years. Both options are accessible for users but the bulk download is limited to a maximum of 2000 files or 500 MB. The File Cloud Explorer makes the download function available in a user-friendly display.

To use the bulk download feature in the URL, simply add “?download” to the end of the URL. This can be set up at various levels (e.g. YEAR & MONTH) , allowing files to be downloaded over an extended period of time.

Please find more detailed information on how to do a bulk download in section 4.4 of the File Cloud User Guide

For optimal performance and compatibility, the use of specialised third-party software is the recommended best practice. Applications such as 7-Zip and WinRAR are powerful, well-established tools for managing a broad spectrum of compressed file types. They offer seamless integration with the Windows user interface. Due to its unreliability and potential for malfunctions, we advise against using Windows' native decompression feature.

On macOS and Linux, you can often use the command line; for example, typing gunzip filename.gz will extract the .gz file while .tar -xvf file.tar will unpack a .tar file. MacOS's built-in Archive Utility also allows you to decompress a .gz and .tar files by simply double-clicking them.

The following documents are available on the EEX website:

    • EEX Group DataSource File Cloud - User Guide: Explanatory document for the scope and type of the service provided and how to access it.
    • EEX Group DataSource File Cloud - Structure File: This file provides details on all available paths, files and fields within each file. This file is the technical part of the user guide.
    • EEX Group DataSource File Cloud - Sample Files: An example of a CSV file specific to different categories of files.
    • EEX Group DataSource File Cloud – sFTP-File Cloud Path Mapping: A file linking files and their paths on the sFTP file to the files and their paths in the File Cloud.
